Okiku's name actually was taken from its owner name, Okiku Suzuki. The owner is a girl who was playing with Okiku a long time ago. The appearance of Okiku doll is having a height of 40 centimeters, dressed in kimono with black eyes like beads, and thick hair. The doll had been kept in the Mannenji temple in Hokkaido since 1938 until now.

Originally, a young man named Eikichi Suzuki in Sapporo in 1918 purchased this kimono doll. At that time, he saw a beautiful Japanese doll with Kimono. Because of interested, he then bought the doll for his 2-year-old sister named Okiku. Okiku was very loved with the doll and played it every day.
Unfortunately, Okiku died shortly after that because of a fever. When Okiku funeral, the family actually wanted to put the doll in her coffin because it was her favorite doll. Somehow, they forgot to put it in. The Okiku family then put the doll on the household altar and prayed for each day in order to commemorate the Okiku death.
Okiku Doll Become The Possessed Doll
Sometime later after its owner died, they saw the doll’s hair began to grow. According to this story, they believed that the spirit of the girl took refuge inside the doll. Therefore, the hair grew like normal children hair. In 1938, the Suzuki family then moved to Shakalin. The Okiku doll was finally deposited at Mannenji temple in Hokkaido until now.
According to the priest at the temple, the traditional Japanese doll was always shorthaired. He also confirmed that the hair of it continued to grow about 25 centimeters long until to the doll's knees. Although it was cut regularly, the hair grew steadily. This story even had inspired a variety of popular Japanese horror films.

Based on the story, Okiku Doll was possessed by its owner, Okiku Suzuki who died due to fever. Its hair always grows like human hair and need to cut regularly. Now, the doll is kept in Mannenji temple in Hokkaido.
